Favorite exercise routine: A workout called “Cindy”: 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 air squats, as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes.

Major exercise accomplishment: Competing in the 2010 CrossFit Games PA/MD/DE Sectionals and recently receiving my CrossFit Level 1 certification.

Proudest exercise moment: Running a 5k alongside my father.

Significant health improvement: Power is a measure of work over time. Continuing on my current regimen, I have increased the amount of work I am able to do over a set time period, making me more powerful.

Why I exercise: Human nature. We evolved on this earth as functional, physical creatures. Sometimes we forget this while we sit in our cubicles.

How working out makes me feel: Momentarily exhausted, but ultimately energized.

Exercising regularly since: I started developing a regimen in college.

How I find the time: My favorite workout is only 20 minutes long. If you keep the intensity up, it’s easy to have a quick very effective workout.

What motivates me to move: Human nature. Looking good is also a nice (but not necessary) side effect.

What keeps me going: The functionality of my workouts drives me. When I’m older I want to put away my groceries, lift objects off the floor, and stand up on my own. My current training will allow for that.

When weather is bad: At the sectionals back in March, we had one event outside, in the rain, with 20-30 mph wind. That didn’t stop me!

Favorite gym: I recently started training at CrossFit Advanced in Easton, but my home is my favorite gym. When you combine the right exercises (lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, handstand push-ups), you can have a great workout on an even better budget.

Favorite exercise video/book: The CrossFit website provides a lifetime of information on workouts and the functionality of fitness.

Role model: The entire CrossFit community for its encouraging and supportive nature. Also Tony Kraemer for introducing me to the CrossFit model.

Favorite equipment: The kettle bell. You could design an entire workout around this oddly shaped weight.

Special strategies to keep me moving: Never give up. Don’t think about how much time is left or how many sets until you are finished, just do it.

How I control the urge to loaf: By giving in to the urge one to two times a week. Everyone needs to rest.

Most helpful tip: Breathe. You won’t get very far with your workout unless you breathe properly!

Favorite workout song: “Till I Collapse” by Eminem

What I eat: I try my best to eat like a caveman: I eat lean meats, lots of veggies, fruits, nuts.

Tips for starting: Find your motivation, find your need. Whether you want to run faster, or you just want to be able to get up out of your chair as you grow older. We all have our reasons.
